In my new year resolutions in 2021, I made a resolution that I will read at least 20 books during the year. I have listed all the books I have read during the year. Below are the list of books with brief plot of the book and my review of the book. To be honest, I have not read all the books in 2020. Some of the books I started to read earlier years but remain incomplete. I had put a focus on to finish reading all these books.
1. One Night @ the Call Center by Chetan Bhagat
Story Summary (as written at the back cover):
In the winter of 2004, a writer met a young girl on an overnight train journey, To pass the time, she offered to tell him a story. However she had one condition: that he make it into his second book. He hesitated, but asked what the story was about.
The girl said the story was about six people working in a call center, set in one night. She said it was the night they got a phone call. A call from God.
Book Review:
This is a very interesting book by Chetan Bhagat. I like his writing style. Its plain and simple english and most of his plot is very relatable with our Asian culture. I am planning to write a detail review of the book in future.

2. On the bank of Naf River (নাফ নদীর তীরে) by Ali Ahsan
Story Summary (as written at the back cover):

3. Moronottom by Sadat Hossain

প্রেসক্লাবের সামনে ভিড় বাড়তে বাড়তে চলে এসেছে রাস্তা অবধি। অফিসফেরত বাসযাত্রীদের বাসগুলো আটকে পড়েছে। ফলে রাস্তার জ্যাম ক্রমশ দীর্ঘ থেকে দীর্ঘতর হচ্চে। কৌতুহলী মানুষ তাদের জরুরী কাজ ফেলে ভিড়ের পেছলে এসে দাঁড়িয়েছে। কিন্তু পিছন থেকে সামনের ঘটনার কিছুই দেখা যাচ্ছে না। গলে কেউ কেউ উঠে গেছে ওভারব্রিজের ওপরে। দু-একুজন তরতর করে রেইন্ট্রি গাছের ডাল বেয়ে উঠে গেছে। আশেপাশের বাসা, অফিসের ছাদেও উৎসুক মানুষের ভিড় লক্ষ করা যাচ্ছে। কিন্তু ঘটনা কি?
ঘটনা হল ভিড়ের মাঝখানে দাঁড়ানো শীর্নকায় মানুষটা। তাঁর নাম আজিজ মাষ্টার। আজিজ মাষ্টার গায়ে কেরোসিন ঢেলে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন প্রেসক্লাবের সামনে। তাঁর বাঁ হাতে ধরা একখানি মশাল। আর কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যেই তিনি সেই মশাল থেকে গায়ে আগুন ধরাবেন। কিন্তু একটু দেরী করছেন। কারন তাঁর গলায় একখানে ছোট ব্ল্যাকবোর্ড ঝোলানো। সেই ব্ল্যাকবোর্ডে চক ঘষে স্পষ্ট বড় বড় অক্ষরে লেখা, ‘আমিই কোহিনুরের বাবা…‘।

(Translation:)
The crowd in front of the press club has increased to the road. The buses of the passengers returning from the office are stuck. As a result, the traffic in the road is getting longer and longer. Curious people have left their urgent work behind the crowd. But nothing can be seen from the back what is happening at the front. Some people have climbed over the over bridge. Two or three people hurriedly climbed the branches of the raintree tree. Crowds of curious people can be seen on the roofs of nearby houses and offices. But what happened?
The incident took place in the middle of the crowd. His name is Aziz Master. Aziz Master is standing in front of the press club pouring kerosene on his body. A torch in his left hand. In a little while he will catch fire on his body from that torch. But he is delaying it a little. A small blackboard is hanging around his neck. On that blackboard, it is clearly written by rubbing chalk in big letters, ‘I am the father of Kohinoor …’.

4. The Code of Hammurabi (Translated by Md. Nuruzzaman Khan)
About the book:
Code of Hammurabi, the most complete and perfect extant collection of Babylonian laws, developed during the reign of Hammurabi (1792–1750 BCE) of the 1st dynasty of Babylon. It consists of his legal decisions that were collected toward the end of his reign and inscribed on a diorite stela set up in Babylon’s temple of Marduk, the national god of Babylonia. These 282 section of laws include economic provisions (prices, tariffs, trade, and commerce), family law (marriage and divorce), as well as criminal law (assault, theft) and civil law (slavery, debt). Penalties varied according to the status of the offenders and the circumstances of the offenses.
The background of the code is a body of Sumerian law under which civilized communities had lived for many centuries. The existing text is in the Akkadian (Semitic) language, but, even though no Sumerian version is known to survive, the code was meant to be applied to a wider realm than any single country and to integrate Semitic and Sumerian traditions and peoples. Moreover, despite a few primitive survivals relating to family solidarity, district responsibility, trial by ordeal, and the lex talionis (i.e., an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth), the code was advanced far beyond tribal custom and recognized no blood feud, private retribution, or marriage by capture. Book Review:
Code of Hamurabbi is an excellent book to have glimpse of lifestyles of at the time of King Hamurabbi. I strongly recommend to make some time to read these codes.

5. Juktira Ure Geche (যুক্তিরা উড়ে গেছে) by Adnin Kuasha
Story Summary (as written at the back cover):
বারান্দায় দাঁড়িয়ে রোদেলা অনেক্ষন ধরে একটা বিড়ালের দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে। বিড়ালটা কার্নিশের একদম কোনায় এমন ভাবে বসে তার দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে যেন এখনই লাফ মেরে তার উপর হামলে পড়বে। রোদেলার একটু একটু ভয় লাগছে আর তখনই বিড়ালটা অবিকল মানুষের মতো গলায় বলল “এক ভয়ঙ্কর অশনি সংকেত তোমার সময় শেষ করে দিচ্ছে, তুমি মৃত্যুর পথে রওনা করেছো”। রোদেলার সমস্ত শরীর বরফের মতো ঠান্ডা হয়ে গেল আর ঠিক সেই মূহুর্তে রিয়ার চিৎকারে পুরো বাড়ি যেন ঝনঝনিয়ে উঠল। রিয়া তার একমাত্র কন্যা রোদেলার ঘরে ফুলদানিতে ফুল সাজাতে গিয়ে তার ভিতরে অদ্ভুত সব জিনিসগুলোর মধ্যে একটি কালো কাগজে সাদা চুন দিয়ে পুতুল আঁকা সাথে অদ্ভুত ভাষায় গোল সার্কেলে কী-সব যেন লেখা একটি কাগজ পেল। রোদেলা ঘরে ঢুকে তার মায়ের দিকে অসহায় চোখে তাকিয়ে থাকল। এদিকে অপেক্ষা জগতের সবচাইতে যৌক্তিক একতা শব্দের নাম হওয়ার পরও রাত্রির একটা অস্বাভাবিক অপেক্ষার গল্প আছে। সেই অপেক্ষার কোন যুক্তি আজ পর্যন্ত সে খুঁজে পায়নি। কারন সে যার অপেক্ষায় আছে সেতা একটা ছায়ামূর্তির। যে ছায়ামূর্তি ভয়াবহ বার্তা নিয়ে আসে। সে বার্তা যে ভীষন অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত। এই ছায়ামূর্তির রাত্রির জীবনে এতোতাই অনাহুত যার কোন সঠিক যুক্তি নেই, কারন এখানে যে সত্যিই যুক্তিরা উড়ে গেছে।
Book Review:
এই বইটি কিছু ভৌতিক গল্পের সঙ্কলন। নবীন লেখক হিসেবে লেখা খারাপ না। তবে গল্পগুলো অন্যান্য ভৌতিক গল্পের মত খুব একটা ভীতিকর নয়। আমি বইটিকে দশে পাঁচ দেব।
